Montreal

I went to Montreal this past week.
I was surprised at how different things where there.
I mean, a lotta the same shit we got here, they got there, but there they're a little different.

Example?

There the public toilets have backrests.

My First Day -- Sort Of

Yesterday Emma got accepted to a program at Hopkins, so we went out to celebrate. Things may have gotten a little crazy, but I headed it off at the pass.
I started up Back to the Future III and passed out on the couch.

I was tired from working a long day. That's my excuse.
Even though I didn't work that long.
I did, however start work at Royal Farms. Well, I went in as an employee for the first time.
I got a call earlier in the day saying that I really impressed the manager and I should come in as soon as possible to fill out some paperwork because he wanted to put me on the schedule as soon as possible. So I went in after work and filled out the two forms that no one can be even put on the schedule there without having completed.

After the two minutes or so that it took me to fill out the crap - which seemed like it was simply one final quiz: Can you write your address out TWICE? - the manager, or "Executive Night Shift Manager," showed me around the expansive store.
He must have thought it was expansive. It took him about half an hour to show me the whole thing even though it couldn't have been any bigger than my living room. "The Otis Spunkmeyer cookies go over here in aisle two next to the Nabisco cookies, although I'm talking to the head manager about moving them closer to the counter."

He already put me on the schedule for Sunday night. I get to train with Janet, one of his "favorite employees." She's trying to get off the night shift, I think he said because of some bladder problem, but I'm not willing to wager anything on that; Brent, the manager seems to run out of steam and mumble if he's not talking about the location of pre-packaged goodies.

I'll Give You More

Man, I haven't been updating this thing very regularly of late.
I let that whole Nigerian email scammer thing sort of fade out when I know I could have written at least a couple more emails to the banker that told me he deposited $29 million dollars in my account, even though he never knew my account number.
I guess I've been doing stuff at work. I'm not sure what, though.
And after work my time has been taken up building a house and downloading tons of albums from ye olde internete. (I like the new Gang Gang Dance and Test Icicles, but can pretty much go without The Clientele and Bloc Party.)

Oh, and I've been applying for a second job.

Last night I dropped off an application for a night shift job at Royal Farms. I got an "interview" right on the spot which seems pretty promising. It was a little weird, though; this fat little bald guy came out from the back of the place to interview me while eating a hotdog.
I'm pretty sure that if you're going to go through the formality of an interview you should do it without sticking a hunk of convenience store cooked meat into your mouth while talking. And you should definitely do it without mustard all over your face.
But, I suppose when you're a shift manager (or whatever he was) at a gas station you can afford to conduct yourself however you want. To hell with the rules, everything from the pornos in the magazine stand to the anti-freeze over in aisle 5 is mine! I rule this place!

Anyway, we'll see how that goes.
