you call this happy hour?
Before I became the full-blown lush I am today, I used to hit the bars every night.
It was a lot easier that way. Finding a girl that works at a grocery store and can actually follow through on her promises of free food on a regular basis isn't as easy as one might think. See, I was hitting the bars for the free happy hour food.
I had Thursday night pizza, Tuesday night hotdogs, Sunday game day buffets. I had myself a schedule of free happy hour food every night of the wee. Every night except Monday.
Monday nights were a blight on my week. I either had to go hungry or actually pay for my own food.
Sure, sometimes I hit up my neighbors for free food. But you can only swipe off a two year-old's plate when he's not looking so many times before he catches on. So you have to save that for special occassions.
It's not that I was really that broke. I don't think I was. It's more that I was cheap. And while I realistically shouldn't put that in the past tense, I am no longer both cheap and going to happy hours every night of the week. In large part because Free happy hour food is much harder to come by in Baltimore.
Anyway, I was looking for quite some time to fill in any part of monday's daily food pyramid with free bar food before coming across what seemed to be the perfect solution. Elbo's.
Elbo's was a bar downtown. They had concerts every so often, and I knew the place from that, but in all honesty it was Elbo's proximity to Chin's that I thought of right away. Elbo's was right next door to Chin's, the Chinese restaurant, and from what I heard they were owned by the same person. So when I saw the add for free food during happy hour on Mondays I knew I had to go.
Sunday night I had dreams of walking into Elbo's, being escorted directly through the door connecting it to Chin's and then left to graze an endless buffet. A happy hour buffet where even the beer was free.
