Two Emails from the NES
The Nigerian email scammer has really outdone himself. He's created a fake business for Merideth, the fictious American, and involved a second email address, this one belonging to a fictitious lawyer looking to legally represent Merideth.
This morning I had two emails waiting for me in my inbox. the first from the lawyer, the second from the address the Nes uses as "his own."

DEAR MADAM,
SEQUEL TO THE RECEIPT OF YOUR REQUEST LETTER FOR RETAINERSHIP WITH REFERENCE TO THE ABOVE SUBJECT YESTERDAY, I HEREBY REFER.
PLEASE BE AWARE THAT WE WILL ONLY BE ABLE TO ACT ON YOUR BRIEF AFTER DUE VERIFICATION FROM THE FEDERAL MINISTRY OF FINANCE AND ECONOMIC DEVELOPMENT THAT YOUR CLAIM IS GENUINE AS WE OFTEN RECEIVE FRIVOLOUS CLAIMS EVERY NOW AND THEN REQUESTING FOR LEGAL BRIEFS WHEN INFACT THEIR CLAIMS ARE NOT AT ALL GENUINE.
THIS HONOURABLE CHAMBERS WOULD HOWEVER CRAVE YOUR INDULGENCE IF ON THE OTHER HAND THE REVERSE WERE THE CASE.
HOWEVER, A TEAM OF LAWYERS LED BY OUR PRINCIPAL PARTNER HAVE AS AT THIS MORNING PRECEDED TO THE HEAD QUARTERS OF THE FINANCE MINISTRY TO ASCERTAIN THE AUTHENTICITY OF YOUR CLAIM. WE SHALL REVERT OUR FINDINGS TO YOU AFTER DUE CONFIRMATION, ON OUR TEAMS RETURN.

Hi Merideth,
How very right you are, we really do need each other in this. I am 53 years this year and for sure would not call that young other than that I am young at heart.
Be rest assured that all necessary assistance have been and would continue to be rendered from our end since we are the ones on ground here. But you must realise the very important point that we (local partners here in Nigeria) are and must not be seen to be involved in this transaction though we are adequately working under ground and doing everything within our powers to see to its successs.
Now having successfully put together the paper work for the preliminary application to the various ministries and parastatals for the grant of the relevant approvals for the funds to be paid to you, I am very pleased to inform you that the High Court has granted inherent transfer of rights and previledges to MERIDETH & COMPANY (NIG) LIMITED in compliance with the original contract agreement appendixes.
The company has duly been incorporated here in Nigeria and the date of incorporation was duly backdated by three years to conform with legal stipulation. The use of the " (NIG) LIMITED" after the name "Merideth & Company" was to meet the registration criterion and to prove that it is a Nigerian Limited Liability company (NIG). I am sending a copy of the certificate of incorporation to you as well as the other relevant registration certificates (totaling 4 in number) that were duly secured yesterday.
Another success was the assessment and payment of taxes for the last three- (3) years for the company which was done just this morning. The payment of the last three years taxes shows completely that the company has been in existence for some years in Nigeria also and has been carrying out all its legal responsibilities to the Nigerian government. Everything has been handled professionally and legally.
Upon conclusion of the transfer to your designated bank account, the fund disbursement between you and us will be as stated on my original letter to you, that is US$7,400,000.00 representing 25% will be your share. All expenses to ensure that the transfer is completed to your account on schedule will be burned by both parties and all such expenses so incurred will deducted from the US$1,480,000.00 representing 5% of the full amount transferred to your account. The balance amount US$20,720,000.00 will be kept unrestricted for me and my associates (Nigerian partners). We further accept that IF ANY other taxes become due, (Federal, State or Local; either in the US or in Nigeria) these taxes will be deducted from our US$20,720,000.00.
I will endeavor to send you additional details of progress and successes as they come. Please let us be in constant touch at least for the next few days as all would be wrapped up shortly now. I need you to avail me with a telephone number that I can reach you with so we could discuss pertinent issues. Also as a usual protocol, once the necessary approvals are gotten the paying authorities would be putting a call across to you to verify/confirm it is indeed you they are making payments to, so send your direct number promptly.

Impressive! And fast, too! I'm still waiting for a copy of my birth certificate which already exists somewhere AND I paid for. Nigeria really has their documents division in good order.
